Skye Consort & Emma Björling perform trans-Atlantic arrangements of songs & tunes from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, England, Québec, Acadia, the USA, as well as original compositions. Each musician brings their own individual interpretation to these traditions to create this extraordinary collaboration, consisting of voices, fiddle, nyckelharpa, cello, bouzouki, banjo, and percussion. An assortment of whirling polskas, groovy reels, passionate love songs, breathtaking hymns, and original compositions.
"Arrangements are masterful and varied, from the arresting "Om Berg och Dalar" ("Of Mountain and Valley") in which Björling's pure voice rides atop a meditative drone before the tune morphs into a lilting reel; to "Cast Iron Stove," a sea shanty with vocals by Skye Consort's Sean Dagher that somehow invokes both Mumford & Sons and Philip Glass; to "The Skunk/Thick as Thieves," whose wordless vocals meld beautifully with the instrumental texture. If you're lucky enough to have a cottage to escape to when the warm weather hits, take this album with you."

"I think it speaks for itself, the musicianship, the powerful invocation of times gone by. The whole CD is magical like that, sometimes in Swedish sometimes French sometimes English."

" A collaboration between our Swedish favorite singer Emma Björling and Canadian Skye Consort can only be a success. The quartet has put together a formidable cross-Atlantic repertoire consisting of festive reels, grand hymns, and breathtaking love songs in four different languages, and with Scandinavian, Northern American, British and Irish cultural origin. A happy and heart-melting blend of traditional and original material of Celtic and Nordic tone language. We get to listen to the nyckelharpa (Alex Kehler, also fiddle) who accompanies British songs, Canadian foot tapping, and voice harmonies; Swedish lilting and singing in Celtic style. The Cello (Amanda Keesmaat) gives chamber music elements. Seán Dagher’s (bouzouki, banjo) warm voice who treats us with a Celtic ballad causes goosebumps. Emma Björling (voice, percussion, shruti box) controls her voice like no one else, a voice that can be sweet, strong, fluffy, jazzy, or a bit poppy. Both fairy- and viking queen reflects in her voice. This project sums up all musical styles I personally like best. Music I can’t and don’t want to stop listening to. To pick one favorite song is impossible. Better than this is hard to get."

"Lots of groups combine elements of music from Scandinavia, Ireland, Scotland, England, and French Canada. None of them do it like Skye Consort.
Skye Consort & Emma Björling delivered a set that shone with polish, flashed with virtuosity, and bubbled with joy.
The musicianship of this band is stunning. They play everything from Swedish love songs and Scottish reels to Acadian and Québécois tunes, all arranged with contemporary harmonies and instrumentation that have many of the characteristics of classic chamber music. All the players know how to improvise on their instruments. But they also know how to nail down intricate arrangements and perform them with consistent precision—all while singing meticulously arranged four-part harmonies. Lots of groups play those styles. None of them do it like Skye Consort."
